RESEARCH AREAS



We work on host resistance against Macrophomina phaseolina (jute) and Rhizoctonia sp. (flax). Our sick plot produces 80–90% stem rot incidence in jute. A simple stem inoculation technique in jute and artificial inoculation method in flax are also developed to confirm the resistance status. Variability in the pathogen population is studied. Our microbial repository contains highly virulent and avirulent strains. These are valued resources for studying host–pathogen interactions. We have established that six different fungal pathogens are associated with stem lesions of jute. At present our lab is working on biological control of plant diseases.
