RESEARCH AREAS



Plant Genetic Resource Management of jute and allied : under this programme PGR activities like introduction, maintenance, characterization and conservation of jute, mesta and flax germplasm are undertaken. A number of accession of germplasm of cultivated species , wild species are collected, evaluated and characterised for different traits and important accessions are registered with NBPGR; A number of accession of germplasm of jute and allied fibre crops are conserved in gene bank and regenerated every year phage wise for maintenance and useful accessions with specific traits are distributed among scientist for effective utilization; Genetic improvement of flax for fibe productivity: A total of 267 lines of germplasm have been evaluated and based on this a number of crosses have been made and segregating generation are being advanced with evaluation and selection of superior progenies.
