Effects of plant geometry and densities on the yield and competition of jute ( Corchorus olitorius L.) and mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek). Evaluation study considered for two types of row arrangements: (1) 1:1 or alternate single row (SR) and (2) 2:2 or alternate double row (DR); where 14 cm wide two rows of a crop formed a narrow strip or a band. The focus in the study have been to optimize produce to achieve a full fibre yield of jute, the main crop (i.e. as much as in sole cropping) with maximization of mungbean seed yield. During pod maturing phase the most limiting resource is the sun light affecting mungbean seed yield significantly. Mungbean plants started perceiving low light stress at its initial flowering stage (35 DAS) when jute plants attain 45-50 cm in height and the degree of stress increases everyday with increased shading from the jute canopy. Height of jute plants reaches around 11, 30, 50, 70, 85 and 300-325 cm, respectively, at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 110-120 days after emergence.
